Why Mexico?

Welcome!!  I am keeping this blog to share my stories and experiences with all of my friends and family.  I will be interning in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico for 5 months and will be living at EOC yugo (Ensenada outreach center), where the high school church group goes each spring break.  As an intern I will help out with house building, VBS, feeing programs, bible studies, doing duties around camp and other awesome community outreaches.  I am really excited to go back to the place I love and serve surrounded by some amazing friends.  I hope you all enjoy my updates :)

Here is my first little post:

Why Mexico?

A few Sundays ago at church I was talking with a friend in line at the cafe.  I can't remember what exactly we were talking about, but whatever it was got the man behind us involved in our conversation.  Somehow things led to Mexico (surprise! haha) and he made a comment like "Oh I would never go to Mexico."  Before I had the chance to tell him that's where I was going to be spending the next 5 months I was asked my order and it was left at that.  But it really got me thinking...why Mexico, what would I say if someone flat out asked me that?  Ever since I was little missions to Mexico have been a goal in my life.  My first missions trip when I was a freshman changed my perspective on life and afterwards I knew that God was calling me to do missions work there.  I love the people, and the culture, the food, the weather and just being in Ensenada. But many people are worried about going into Mexico because of all of the news reports and articles on the danger there.  I get many comments and questions for my safety but i truly feel as safe as I do at home.  God put Mexico on my heart the day the high school group at my old church presented about their trip when I was probably in 1st or 2nd grade. When it comes down to it I wish I could explain in words exactly why Mexico, but I can't...it's an overwhelming feeling of joy and peace that I am supposed to be there :) and that is WHY MEXICO :)
