First few weeks!

The last few weeks have been crazy! Awesome-crazy :)  It's been almost 3 weeks since I got here and I have been having an amazing time.  The first week I got to spend as a leader with my church's high school team.  It was such a cool way to start out my time here, surrounded by friends and family serving together.  The team built two houses and we did a feeding program and VBS.  The feeding program was such a cool experience.  Every monday, wednesday, friday a local church sets up a neighboorhood feeding program where the kids can eat, sing songs, play and hear stories from the bible.  It was a very eye-opening experience and I fell in love with SO many kids.  It is always so hard to leave ministry sites at the end of the week because I fall in love with the place and the people.

My second week we had a huge group in and built 6 houses.  I was building for a family of 4.  The mom, dad, Luis Daniel (3) and Alexsis (4 months.)   That week I spent alot of time learning new things on the construction site and was also able to develop a relationship with the mom.  It was incredible to be able to spend time just talking with her, learning about her life and how the house will affect her.  It still blows me away the impact 4 days of our lives can have on a family. Daniel was such a little stinker, I absolultly love him.  The first day we were playing and he called me a witch..out of love of course, while throwing rocks at me and biting me! haha But he was such a sweetheart also, he hated things being dirty so after I would mud inside the house he would get water and make sure all of it was off my hands and on the last day he ran to the car to say goodbye again.  Even as a 3 year old he was SO excited for his house.  At one point we were asking the mom if there was anything specific she wanted for her house, before she had the chance to reply Daniel says "Yo quiero una cama!" (I want a bed!)  When he received his house he ran to his room, pulling things out of a backpack saying "it's mine, it's mine"  every time.  I remember at one point he looks up at me and I could see the joy in his eyes.  I love that little boy <3
